Tybee Island Beach Weddings

Tybee is the closest beach to Savannah. The beach stays public, so there are a few things to know before you picture your aisle in the sand.

The Permit

The City of Tybee says you need a Beach Permit for any activity beyond usual beachgoers. You apply through the City's online reservation site, and there is a non refundable application fee paid at checkout. The City's page doesn't list the amount, so check it when you apply. The city can't reserve the beach or make any part of it private, and it issues one permit per area at a time.

The Rules

  • Reservations run from 7 am to 9 pm only.
  • You set up and take down all your own equipment and decor. The City doesn't provide rentals.
  • No fires or open flames, no glass, no dogs, no motor vehicles.
  • No helium balloon or lantern releases.
  • Only real, non dyed flower petals. No birdseed, no rice, no artificial petals.
  • No smoking or vaping on beaches, with a fine of up to $300.
  • Stay out of the dunes and off the rock jetties for photos.

Parking

The City enforces beach parking from 8 am to 8 pm all year, and it suggests shuttle buses for large parties. I would take that advice seriously.

Your License

Tybee sends couples to Chatham County Probate Court. Here is how that works.

A Chapel As Plan B

The Chapel by the Sea on Highway 80, formerly known as the Tybee Island Wedding Chapel, offers indoor and outdoor ceremonies for up to 220 guests.
